Press Release Body: Sensornet, the global provider of the most advanced monitoring solutions, has successfully installed the world's first multi-point open-hole Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) technology for a major operator in the Middle East.
The DTS system was installed across the entire horizontal open-hole section which allows continuous real-time monitoring of flow contribution from the Inflow Control Device (ICD) equaliser system.
The Sensornet SureSightT cable was deployed along the entire 11,000ft well and was successfully passed through one production packer and four swell packers which were used for compartmentalisation of production zones in the open-hole section. Pressure testable splice assemblies were installed above each packer with zero optical losses. The installation took less than 3 days to install and was completed at the end of May 2008.
Prior to the completion a Production Logging Tool (PLT) intervention was carried out to determine the optimum producing intervals and to facilitate the final setting depth for each swell packer providing zonal isolation in the open hole section.
The ICD equalised production will maximise reservoir drainage along the entire open-hole horizontal section of these production wells. Being continuously monitored by the permanently installed DTS system will not only confirm the production allocation and detect any changes in the production flow profile over time, but it will also dramatically reduce the need for PLT intervention which brings significant financial benefits to the operator.
The DTS system was also continuously monitored during the installation. This provides real-time data during all phases of the completion assuring the operator that the Sensornet DTS system was fully functional during operations and allowing performance testing and confirmation on functionality of other completion components.
Mark Watson, Sensornet VP Middle East, said: "The installation of the DTS in an ICD system is another world first for the company and reiterates our position as a solutions provider in advanced monitoring capabilities.
"This technology bridges the gap between assumption and knowledge, allowing the operator to fully understand the performance and integrity of a well or reservoir in order to maximise its potential, without added expense, time or potentially hazardous intervention. It provides fully distributed data in real-time to allow the operator to act instantly on results gathered."
